There are many components that will enter the production process of Goodyear tires. They play an important role in ensuring that your vehicle achieves optimal performance and keeps you safe.
Parts of the tire
Bead
The bead is made of high-strength steel wire covered with rubber so that the tire and rim are close to the synthetic wheel.
Belt layer
The steel belt layer surrounds the tire for one week to enhance strength and provide stability, and is made of steel wire fabric composed of rubber-covered steel wire. Aramid cords are also sometimes added to add extra strength, puncture resistance and durability.
Ply
The ply is a skeleton of a tire made of fibers and is usually made of woven fiber threads covered with rubber. This will make your tires flexible. The ply, also known as the carcass ply, is placed directly on the innerliner of the tire and the strength of the tire is provided by it.
Sidewall
This is a region of thicker rubber that extends from the bead to the tread and provides lateral stability of the tire. Here you will find all the tire manufacturing information.
Sipes and grooves
The tread blocks are separated by deep grooves that will allow your tires to drain, snow and mud. The sipe is a smaller groove carved into the tread block, which provides additional grip, which is particularly important on tires made for snow and ice conditions.
Shoulder
The slightly inclined edge portion of the tread-to-side joint portion of your tire. Its pattern and structure play an important role in your steering maneuver.
Tread
This is the part of your tire where rubber is in contact with the road. The tread provides both cushioning and grip, and its pattern and formula determine most of the most important performance characteristics of your tire.
Tire manufacturing process
Mixing
Up to 30 types of raw materials are mixed in your tire's rubber. The proportion of raw materials depends on the tire's performance goals. It is made up of various types of rubber, fillers and other raw materials, which are mixed together in a giant mixer called a Banbury mixer to produce a black viscous compound that will be used for calendering. .
503x287-tyresmade-3 calendering
After the rubber to be kneaded cools, it is sent to a special open mill where the rubber is cut into strips that will form the basic structure of the tire. At this stage, other parts of the tire are also prepared, some of which are covered with another type of rubber.
forming
The tires themselves are assembled from the inside out. Fabric pieces, wire belts, beads, plies, treads and other components are placed in a tire building machine to ensure that each component is in its exact location. The output looks somewhat similar to the final product and is called a green tire.
vulcanization
The green tire was placed in a heated mold and cured by pressure for vulcanization. All tire components were pressed together and given the final shape of the tire, including its tread pattern and the manufacturer's sidewall mark.
