Everything you need to know about your tires is printed on the sidewall. Reading this information will help you select new tires for maintenance and when needed. This guide will let you understand the meaning of all numbers and letters.
Tire type The letter “P” or no letter indicates passenger tires. Structure The letter "R" indicates that it is a radial (structural) tire. The ECE certification mark and number indicate that the tire meets the European Economic Commission (ECE) standards for pneumatic tires. Tyre Pressure Information Indicates the maximum allowable tire pressure for your tire. It is the information you need to know when checking tire pressure. To find out the recommended inflation pressure for your vehicle, please refer to your car's user manual and the relevant tire label on the body. Tread Wear Point The letter "TWI" indicates the position of the tread wear flag of the tire. You should check these signs regularly to ensure that the tread pattern is deep enough. In most cases the smallest pattern depth is 1.6 mm. Date of manufacture The date of manufacture of the tire is expressed in four digits of the week and year of production.
The flatness ratio is the ratio of height to width of the tire section, expressed as a percentage. For example, a flat ratio of 65 means that the tire height is about 65% of its width.
Wheel diameter Inches the diameter (height) of the wheel.
Load Index The tire's load index tells you its maximum load capacity. It's important to choose a tire that matches your manufacturer's recommendations to replace it. You can find the load index on the sidewall of the tire, right next to the diameter. Velocity grade Speed ??grade is the maximum speed allowed under the correct inflation pressure and load. You can find the speed level on the sidewall, which is an English letter printed on it. For example, a speed level V indicates that the maximum speed of the tire is 240 km/h. When you purchase a tire, be sure to match its speed rating with your vehicle's speed capability.
